New CFO has penchant for travel and finances

John was born in London, England, but raised in Norfolk. He attended Oceanair elementary, Northside middle and Norview high schools. Continuing his educational pursuits in Norfolk, he is a graduate of Old Dominion University with a BS-BA degree in Accounting and is a licensed CPA. John has over 27 years of financial experience in the public/private sector including stints as the Director of Finance for Portsmouth Public Schools, Norfolk and Richmond Airports, the Hampton Roads Sanitation District, and as an accountant for Price Waterhouse.

All work and no play isn’t John’s motto. He has a great passion for travel and is an avid history buff. “I am a serious history buff and what better place in the U.S. to live then in Virginia, the cradle of America,” says John. After traveling throughout the U.S. and around the world, John was afforded the opportunity to experience different people and cultures that gave him a greater understanding of his place in the world. And, if you run into someone else with the name “Maniscalco in the Norfolk area,” John says, “They are all related.”

John was asked the question, “Why NPS?” His answer was not surprising. “I came to NPS to work with Dr. Jones and the incredible team of dedicated educators and business managers to enhance the educational process while simultaneously being a good steward of the public’s resources. Through team work and collaboration, I will enhance the contribution of the business and finance staff in support of Dr. Jones’ efforts,” says John.
