If teachers are the hands that teach guide us, counselors are the hearts that speak to us.
The week of February 2-6 is being recognized as National School Counseling Week 2009. This is an important celebration of the unique contributions counselors make in our schools every day. After all, they have a tremendous impact on how our students achieve school success.
“Our counselors are reaching out to our students and their families, assisting our teachers in building stronger school cultures, and serving as positive role models for our children,” said Dr. Stephen C. Jones, superintendent of schools. “The services they provide like counseling our children, problem solving support, and connecting children, their families, and the communities to resources that foster success and achievement, are among our society’s most noble causes.”
Jones said he is very appreciative of all the hard work the counselors in Norfolk Public Schools put forth to achieve the division’s ultimate goal — a world class education for all of our students— and ALL means ALL.
School counselors are certified professional educators who work as vital pieces of a school building providing student services that enhance achievement both academically and socially.
