It was a night of excitement as the AEOPN celebrated its 45th annual Bosses’ Night Dinner with the surprise announcement of its 2011 Educational Administrator and Office Professional of the Year. Dr. Patricia Dillard, Executive Director of Human Resources, was chosen as AEOPN Administrator of the Year and Shannon Freeman, an Administrative Secretary in Compensatory Education, as the Educational Office Professional of the Year.
A tearful thank you was offered by Dr. Dillard, who is retiring after 31 years, in response to the prestigious award. “I have a wonderful human resource staff that know their job and who work hard but knowing that they nominated me, I could not look at them without shedding a tear,” shared Dillard.
Dillard has worked in many areas of education including Physical Education Teacher, Teacher Specialist and her current role. Dr. Dillard has received many awards throughout her career, including lifetime member of the Virginia Association of School Personnel Administrators, Bentley-Lakely Award from Virginia DARE Association and Woman of the Year – Auxiliary to the National Medical Society.
Shannon Freeman has worked with NPS for over four years in the Compensatory Education Office as an Administrative Secretary. She has been a member of the national, state and local associations and chairman of the Public Relations committee. She also publishes their quarterly newsletter. Freeman has attended many state and local workshops, volunteers with families in transition (homeless) and Relay for Life.
“Winning this award lets me know that I have been doing good things and I am really proud of that,” says Freeman. My mom has always told me that no matter what you do, there is always someone watching, so try to do good things.”
The VAEOP selected Robyn Bumbry, Executive Secretary to the Chief Financial Officer, as the Educational Office Professional of the Year for the state of Virginia. Last year, Bumbry was chosen as the AEOPN's 2010 Educational Office Professional of the Year.
Over the past seven years, she has worked in several offices with NPS including the Department of Pupil Personnel, Human Resources and Business and Finance. She is active in the national, state and local educational office professional organizations and is the current AEOPN President-Elect and will be installed as AEOPN President this month.
