NPS says "Thank You" to Interim Superintendent Spencer

On Wednesday, June 20, 2012, NPS' School Board and Administration celebrated Mr. Michael Spencer's nearly four-decade career in public education.

Speakers, including School Board Chairman Dr. Kirk T. Houston, Sr., Maury High School Assistant Principal Jack Baker and Granby High School Principal Ted Daughtrey, praised Mr. Spencer for his strong work ethic, his mentorship of budding leaders, and his dedication to children and to education. Mr. Spencer's retired assistant, Ms. Nancy Bryant, and Executive Assistant to the Superintendent Vicki Lorson thanked him for his care and concern for the people with whom he works.

Dr. Houston expressed gratitude that Mr. Spencer stepped in as Interim Superintendent of Schools this year. Mr. Spencer has provided solid leadership during the time of transition, Dr. Houston said, and has ensured that the school division has continued to move forward rather than falling behind.

Mr. Spencer has served as Principal of Maury High School, Chief/Associate Superintendent of Operations and Interim Superintendent.

In his remarks during the celebration, Mr. Spencer said he and other school division employees are involved in one of the most important jobs: helping children. Mr. Spencer thanked his coworkers for their hard work and support.
