On Tuesday, April 3, 2012, Vice President Joe Biden and Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will travel to Maury High School to discuss college affordability. Since the members of Maury High School’s senior class were born, average published tuition and fees at public four-year colleges across the country have tripled. Two thirds of all college students take out loans to pay for school, graduating with an average debt of more than $25,000.
Maury juniors and seniors and staff members will be invited to watch the presentation in the school gym. Seniors from Granby High have been invited to attend as well. Then-Senator Barack Obama visited Granby four years ago, when the Class of 2012 was beginning its high school journey.
Norfolk Public Schools has made it a priority for students to graduate from high school on time and move on to options and opportunities after high school.
In the afternoon of April 3, at 3:45 p.m., Vice President Biden will continue the dialogue by answering questions about college affordability and the steps the Administration has taken to keep college affordable in Virginia and across the country on Twitter. People can ask questions using the hashtag #AskVP and follow the chat live from the @VP Twitter account. Additional details can be found at WhiteHouse.gov/AskVP.
