They didn't have to spell the winning word "A-B-E-R-R-A-N-T" but being in the company of other great spellers was an experience of a lifetime for Kenan Love of Norview Middle School and Jared Draper of Ruffner Academy as they competed against 40 participants in the Virginian-Pilot's Spelling Bee contest.
Last Saturday, WHRO TV-15 aired the final qualifying round of the local spelling bee where the winner is slated to attend the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. Both students proudly represented Norfolk Public Schools.
