The September edition of the Johns Hopkins Promising Partnership Practice Journal features a story about Ruffner Academy's Parent Academy, a strong partnership between the community, parents and the school. Stephanie Hazell, a business and marketing teacher at Booker T. Washington High School, wrote the article while she was a dean at Ruffner last year. The article was published in the journal's careers and college category.

Jonathan Guthrie and Gliezelle Bertulf, both in Norview High School's Leadership Center for the Sciences and Engineering, were selected to participate in a NASA-based program. The Virginia Aerospace Science and Technology Scholars program is a science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) educational program for high school juniors.
Jonathan and Gliezelle are eligible to earn four college credits through Thomas Nelson Community College by completing the online Aerospace Scholar course work and spending seven days at NASA Langley Research Center immersed in hands-on STEM activities.
